I made a wedding venue for my Sims to get married in. When I go to the "plan wedding event" option with my partner I can't select the lot that I've created, (I have placed it in willow creek and I can visit it) I also went to the actual lot and tried to do it via the wedding arch and still no success. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you make sure the lot is set as a community lot and not residential?

Same thing happened to me yesterday, I had to set it to one of the pre-existing type of lots before I could hold a wedding there.

Yeah it was set to generic, which is community. I don't think that it matters anyway as I could select residential lots to host the wedding. I gave up and just added a small area to the park, I think it may be a bug.

Is any of your generic community lots attracting visitors? I created a generic lot, but when my sim goes there, she won't see any other sims. They just walk by. When I reassigned it as a bar, the lot gets crowded. So what is a generic lot for if it's mostly empty? Any ideas?

a Guru said that no one will visit a generic lot, only your sims. I think that should be changed. they will only visit the lots that you make with the objects that are listed for the lot.

  • @Evalen thanks! It's not the answer I hoped for, though, but maybe they will adjust this later...

Hey, Yeah generic lots can't be used for events. I set mine to lounge as the items required I was going to place anyway.

game doesn't recognize a "generic" lot as a place to throw parties - like in sims 3 you could throw parties at the specific lot type only. Just convert your lot to a bar before wedding and you can change it back to generic after if you don't like your wedding venue to be a bar

not quite true - I have an arcade that i've built in Oasis springs - I set it as a generic lot type. Other NP sims still visit the lot but you won't see that many sims like in bars, nightclubs, etc. but they still do visit them - i would say that they take it as a public area

I hope that they change this also. It would be nice to make a lot and everyone shows up. I know that in the Q/A the guru said you can make a generic lot for your own use, but sims will not come. I am glad to hear that some did come anyway. But it is sad that it is not like the other lots. they did say that they would look into not having to add so many things to make it a proper lot. Like not having to put kids thing always in a park area. It would be nice to make your lots they way you want.
I guess I will have to work around it somehow.

I was reading in some thread that certain types of venues have to have certain specific objects on them. That's all I remember, though. I'm not a builder, so I'm not being very helpful, am I. Sorry.

I have the same issue, I had to make mine a lounge in the end and shove all the extra stuff in the loft space. I would like it if we had a proper wedding venue option; two, infact. 'Private wedding venue' and 'public wedding venue.' The private one would only allow your invited guests onto the lot during the wedding. It would only require the wedding arch to function. It would also be great if later on we could use these venues as cemeteries too, if we so wish, however I'm not sure they will be combining lot types.

It's a pity we can't use generic lots for this kind of event. I made a Wedding place but I don't want it be a lounge bar or a park. It must be changed

You can't select a generic lot for a date, either. Really, EA? Come on.

I had the exact same problem yesterday with a new wedding venue I added to my game from the gallery. I had to go into manage worlds and change the wedding venue lot from "generic" to a "park." I had to add a few extra objects in order for the game to recognize the lot as a park but it still looked like a wedding venue. Then I was able to select the lot when my sim went to plan their wedding.

Yeah it's pretty annoying and makes custom lots almost useless. When I played the game, I got this beautiful wedding chapel from the Gallery for a wedding but ultimately I had to add all sorts of ridiculous things to the lot so it would be considered a park...just to be able to have the wedding take place there. I wanted to add some things to the lot to make it even nicer but I couldn't cause the lot was packed with park junk that in no way went with the chapel or fit with the theme I wanted.

In the Sims3 all you had to do was set the lot type correctly, you didn't have to be forced to add a ton of junk...It's so funny, when this game was being promoted they went on and on about how you could customize your sims with the click and drag of a mouse but it seems like they destroyed customization everywhere else.

I hate that generic doesn't work as a catchall to visit. I had to set my wedding venue to park and add a bunch of stuff like kiddy play stuff. Can't get married in a generic lot I created? (22)

I noticed a new lot type today called "National Park." It only has 3 simple requirements: a trashcan, a grill, and a picnic bench. Has anyone tried this lot type for weddings? I want to create a wedding venue, but I don't want to spend the time building one if it won't work. I would love it if someone could test this out!

Just had this happen. I changed it to Nation Park but it still doesn't show up on the Wedding Event list. I'll try changing it to something else. Will report back.

Just changed it to a Museum and it showed up. So I don't think National Park counts.

What I had to do was put it in a specific lot type. Make it Generic first!
The lots you have to use are located in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs. When you first go to the map you'll notice the 4 lot strip in the bottom left side, currently with a museum, bar, nightclub, library, etc. Just replace one of those lots and you SHOULD be able to host a wedding there. I found out by looking at the non residential lots already available and noticed that they were all located together. It worked for me, so maybe it'll work for you! Good luck!

If I want a park without the pirate ship and monkey bars I make a basem*nt and put them there. Lot's of things can go in the basem*nt if you want your lot to look different from the list of required things Can't get married in a generic lot I created? (29)

What I do is on the side make a after-party area, and make the place a bar.

    Happy Simming!

Just put the park things like kids play stuff in the basem*nt of the lot and no stairs or doors leading to it and you won't even notice them
