June 2009 in The Sims 3 General Discussion

Anyone know how to create a new empty lot (i.e. build a house from scratch) in the neighbourhood? I've been trying to find an icon similar to the one from TS2 but to no avail...any help guys?

+1, the answer must be obvious, but I havent found it anyway, ended up moving into a prefab house to work up a bank roll for later when I figure it out.

You cannot create a empty lot, you have to use a lot that is already in the game. There are several different empty lot sizes to choose from.

When you select what house to move your sims to you can choose from an empty lot or one with a house already built. They have different icons. The empty lot icon looks like just a flat bar.. Dunno if that helps or not.

For some reason (maybe I'm blind) I wasn't given the option of moving my sim into an empty lot, only a prefab house. Since I despise the pre-fab houses, I just went into Edit Town mode and built a square on the empty lot of my choosing, then went back to my playable sim and it became a lot which had been built on and I could then select it.
Hopefully I'm not missing the obvious and doing things the hard way for no reason - lol, but it's been known to happen. :P

If you mean an empty lot with people in it, it's a bit complicated.

First, you need to leave whatever game you're playing by choosing 'Edit Town'
Once you've done that, you'll need to change the active household by clicking the 'change active household' button to the left.

Next, If the empty lots aren't showing up, you just have to click 'edit town' again or 'choose household.'

I can't remember perfectly but that's the gist of it.

    With love,

    Answer

Adding new lots and houses to your neighborhood is a very simple process.

    To add a lot:

    1. Click the Lots & Houses button in the Neighborhood screen.
    2. Click the Empty Lots icon.
    3. Click on the size lot that you would like to add.
    4. Choose a location that will accommodate your new lot You can change the direction the lot is facing in the same way you would furniture; just hold down the left mouse button and pull in the appropriate direction..
    5. Line up the street outline attached to the lot with the street where you are placing the lot.
    6. Click to place the lot.
    7. Choose whether your lot is Residential (for a house), or Community; also choose a name for the lot here.
    8. Click the check mark button.

Your lot will appear as a transparent blue (for community), or green (for residential), rectangle in your neighborhood.

    To add a pre-built house:

    1. Click the Lots & Houses button in the Neighborhood screen.
    2. Click the Lots & Houses Bin icon.
    3. Click the house you would like to place.
    4. Choose a location that will accommodate your new house. You can change the direction the house is facing in the same way you would furniture; just hold down the left mouse button and pull in the appropriate direction.
    5. Line up the street outline attached to the house with the street where you are placing the house.
    6. Click to place the house.
    7. Rename the Lot if you wish and click the check mark to place the house.

Your new house will now be available in the neighborhood screen.

go to EDIT TOWN , then click on WORLD EDITOR , its down in the bottom left looks like a notepad with a pen icon , the LOTS tab is there

I'm just having an issue where the new lot i pick is not aligning to the street

That's how you do it and you can add as many as you want as long as the size fits in the space and dose not overlap another lot it turns from red squares to green squares

I'm not the one being negative here, so loose the rude attitude. Yes, you did bring a topic back from the grave, which isn't always appreciated but it's not going to kill anyone, but you've done it a few times now with different threads which is considered spam. And yes, many topics like these have been posted recently now that Ambitions and the newest patch have been released. Use the search feature next time.

In order to place a brand new empty lot, you have to go to the edit town mode, and select the "edit world" icon. It looks like a book and pencil at the bottom left of the screen. That will give you options for lots in different sizes, i.e. 6x4, 20x20, etc.

The difficulty in this is the terrain. The lots must be placed on level terrain, and as you can see, the terrain in these towns are anything BUT leveled!

Good luck, and hope this helps! Creating a new empty lot (19)
