May 2014 in The Sims 3 General Discussion

This may be an idiotic question, or one that has already been answered, but can you have family members "move" into a family-owned home and still have them playable?

EDIT: By playable, I mean can you still play them along with the original family without switching active households?

Do you mean combine two households together into one or have two different houses and two different sets of sims live in their own home while never having to go into edit town to switch households?

You can purchase a second lot so your sims will own two houses but they can only "live" in one at a time. So telling one sim to go home they will travel to the current house they live in. The second house wont have a go home option so you would have to direct your sims onto that lot yourself. The reason it works like this is because this feature was meant for owning resorts in the game via Island Paradise expansion pack. You can still use it to own two houses for your household, you just won't have two separate go home commands for each house. I hope I'm making sense here... :P

Oh and you don't need to own Island Paradise for this option. It was added in a patch but I'm not sure which patch level.

You made perfect sense! Multiple homes/families. (4) But yes, I meant buy a house and have a member of the active household live there with their family but still be able to play all the members. If THAT makes sense lol. They should really make it possible to own the houses and have two "active households" without having to play them separately.

Sorry there isn't an easy fix. :?

If you do choose to purchase a second home... I think you can do so by phone, computer, or clicking onto a vacant lot.

If you have one of your family members move to another house with another family, then the first thing you can choose is decide which is your active household (which group you will be playing as by default). It could be the original set, or it could be the one that's moving.

You can change which you play as at any time by pressing the Menu button, clicking on Edit Town, and then, at the bottom left corner, you'll see something that says Switch Active Household. Do that, but it's suggested to save before doing so. The Wishes that you have for all Sims will be lost when you switch.

    I hope that helps!

The OP mentioned in her original post she doesn't want to have to switch between the households. Unfortunately there is no easy way around it. Anyways, that's what I read from her post.
