Weirdly, the PS4 is now a retro console. I know that’s going to make you all feel old, but not that the PS5 is out, it’s soon going to be obsolete.
Still, no one is denying how powerful this behemoth is. The PS4 Pro is such a mammoth console that it can handle pretty much anything, which makes it a great console to mod.
By jailbreaking Sony’s fourth home console, players can open up a whole new world of possibilities, adding so many features that just wouldn’t be available under normal circ*mstances.

A Quick Word of Warning…
Do note that jailbreaking your PS4 is done at your own risk – with it being against Sony’s terms of use, you won’t be able to go online while the jailbreak is active; to do so, you’re playing with fire and risking being banned by Sony permanently.
Play PS4 Games
It might seem a little silly to say that you can play PS4 games on a PS4. Still, what if I said that you could play all PS4 games, real and copied?
That means you can play rare games that are harder to find these days and have access to games from other regions that might not have dropped in your neck of the woods.
Just know that there are a lot of grey areas when it comes to downloading game files if you don’t own the game in the first place.
Create Custom Themes
If you’ve got a jailbroken PS4, then there’s so much scope for customising every element of the theme. There are so many different variations, graphics, and colour palettes that you can delve into that you’ll be left pretty speechless!
If your the type of gamer the likes the best games with good character creation, then you’ll have a field day here!
Emulating Other Games
One of the main benefits of using a jailbroken PS4 is the fact that you can play so many different PS1 and PS2 games on there.
Is the PS4 backwards compatible? All I’m going to say is the amount of old games you can play on it will dramatically increase after it becomes modded.
Not only that, but you can download emulators such as RetroArch to emulate tonnes of other consoles straight from your PS4. Pretty cool, right?
Homebrew Games
Did you know that there’s a whole store dedicated to homebrew games for the PS4?
The PS4-Store gives jailbroken PS4 users the ability to manage their apps and download a tonne of jailbroken games to play on whenever they like.
With regular updates and a large community backing it, it’s actually pretty simple to and pain-free to use too!
Installing and Running Linux
Linux has the greatest logo of all time (I love penguins), and now you can have that little lad chilling out on your PS4.
If you want to play Steam games on your PS4, then get Linux on the go and get cracking. You’ll need to know a lot about Linux though if you want to make some of the newer and larger steam games run smoothly, so be prepared to get your nerd on and give it some deep thought.
Game Backups
If you want to play games and play them free from the constraints of digital-rights management (or DRM-free for the fellow geeks), then you can make back ups of your games using a jailbroken PS4.
There’s no chance that we’re telling you how to do this. There are so many legal ramifications to doing this that we’d be handed a world of pain in an instant if we did.
Still, if you can type and use Google, I’m sure you can figure it out for yourself… for purely scientific reasons, of course,
FPS Patches and Cheats
Finally, one of the best things you can do with a jailbroken PS4 is downloading 60FPS patches for your favourite games. Seeing Bloodborne at 60FPS is just unreal!
Alongside better patches for games such as Witcher III and Alien Isolation, you can also get some sweet cheats for your favourite games too. Multitrainer and PS4 Trainer have some great options for uploading cheat files into the mix.
Plus, with a little practice, you can actually make your own cheats!
