Unveiled: COUGAR's 1200W PSU with 6 Versatile Power Ports at CES 2026 (2026)

Hold on to your hats, PC builders! COUGAR just dropped a bombshell at CES 2026: a 1200W power supply unit (PSU) from their Polar V2 line, and its design might make you do a double-take. The reason? It boasts six 16-pin power ports. But before you start picturing a tangled mess of cables, let's dive into what this really means.

Published on January 10th, 2026, by WhyCry, the news is all about COUGAR's bold move. The Polar V2 series includes 850W, 1000W, and the star of the show, the 1200W model. What catches the eye immediately are the six eye-catching orange ports, clearly labeled “12V-2×6 & PCI-E & CPU.”

At first glance, this might seem a bit… intense. After all, 16-pin GPU power cables have earned a reputation, and seeing a whole panel of these ports can be a bit daunting. Imagine trying to power six high-end graphics cards like the rumored RTX 5090, or even three of the monstrous RTX 5090 LIGHTNING models!

But here's where it gets controversial... the reality is simpler than it appears. These six ports are essentially a shared interface. COUGAR cleverly uses adapter cables to transform some of these ports into CPU EPS connectors and others into standard PCIe 6+2-pin connectors for GPUs. For the latest graphics cards that use the 16-pin input, the same ports can stay 12V-2×6 on both ends. And this is the part most people miss... we don’t yet know what the limitations are if all of these connectors were dedicated to GPUs.

Beyond the connector configuration, the Polar V2 seems pretty standard for its class. The unit on display features a patterned, tile-like fan grille. The report also mentions a 130 mm fan that's unusually thick at 30 mm. This could mean more efficient airflow at a given speed, but the noise levels will depend on COUGAR's fan curve and how aggressively the semi-passive mode operates under load.

COUGAR hasn't revealed the pricing or an exact release date for the Polar V2 at CES. This leaves us wondering when these units will hit the shelves and what the price range will be for the 850W to 1200W models.

What do you think? Is this a smart, future-proof design, or does it overcomplicate things? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
