Unlicensed Botox Injections: A Miami Clinic's Controversial Practice
In a recent development, a 39-year-old man, Yumyut Sali Mustafa, has been charged with two felonies for allegedly providing unlicensed cosmetic injections in Miami's Brickell neighborhood. This incident has raised concerns about the safety and legality of cosmetic procedures in the area.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office arrested Mustafa after an undercover operation on Wednesday. According to investigators, he operated a clinic called YM Aesthetics Miami from an office in the Latitude One building at 175 SW Seventh St. The clinic's website, ymaestheticsclinic.com, lists Mustafa as a Bulgarian-born British national and also mentions an office in London.
During the undercover operation, a Florida Department of Health operative set up a Botox appointment with Mustafa. He replied affirmatively when asked if he was texting Dr. Mustafa. When the operative met with him for a $599 forehead injection, Mustafa claimed the product was approved by the FDA. However, investigators later discovered that the product was Re-N-Tox, an unapproved foreign product from South Korea that cannot be dispensed in the United States.
The operative signaled for help, and deputies from the Medical Crimes Unit of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office arrested Mustafa. He now faces felony charges of practicing healthcare without a license and possession of a prescription drug with intent to sell, as well as a misdemeanor charge of misrepresenting himself as a licensed physician.
In response to a one-star Google review stating that Mustafa is not licensed to provide injectables, the YM Aesthetics account owner assured customers that they take licensing and professional conduct seriously and are committed to upholding the highest standards of care and compliance.
As of Thursday morning, Mustafa was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond. This incident highlights the importance of verifying credentials and the potential risks associated with unlicensed cosmetic procedures.
