Weather Alert: Tropical Depression Wilma's Impact on the Philippines
The remnants of Tropical Depression Wilma have been causing some serious weather disruptions across the Philippines, particularly in Mimaropa and Western Visayas. But here's the good news: the state weather agency, Pagasa, predicts that this low-pressure area (LPA) will dissipate within the next 48 hours.
Weather specialist Robert Badrina from Pagasa explains that the LPA is responsible for the cloudy skies and scattered rains and thunderstorms experienced in these regions. However, it's not the only weather system causing a stir. There's also the shear line, a convergence of hot and cold air, which is bringing overcast skies and isolated thunderstorms to areas like the Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan.
And this is where it gets a bit more complex. Metro Manila and other parts of the country are expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers due to the northeast monsoon, known locally as 'amihan'. But here's the twist: the easterlies, those winds that bring humid and warm weather, are also contributing to similar weather patterns in the Bicol Region, according to Pagasa's forecaster.
So, while we wait for Wilma's LPA to dissipate, it's important to stay informed about these other weather systems and their potential impacts. Remember, weather patterns can be unpredictable, and it's always better to be prepared.
And this is the part most people miss: the national weather bureau predicts that Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms within the next 24 hours.
