The Sims 4 just like any other game in the franchise is all about change and different life experiences. It allows players to enjoy every type of lifestyle that they wouldn't perhaps go for in the real world, it's truly something unique. Naturally, as Sims live out their lives, they'll meet new people, add members to the family, change homes, and such. These are all pretty big steps and some of them aren't as straightforward as they could be.

This guide will talk about how to get Sims to join a household that they don't belong to in The Sims 4. There are a few ways to do this and this article will go over all of them, so players can decide what they prefer or what better suits their gameplay needs.
Updated on June 30, 2023, by Ashely Claudino: Despite being around for so long, The Sims 4 is undoubtedly a game that players can continue to play for years and years without getting tired. There is always something new to do, expansion packs to try out, and more mods to install. This guide has now been updated with a section on mods, a big part of the game for more of the community. With this update, players will learn how they can add more Sims to their household with the help of a great mod used by many Sims 4 players.
If the goal is simply to join a Sim (or more) to a certain household and there are no other storyline reasons for doing it such as wanting them to fall in love or be best friends, Manage Worlds is the way to go. After all, it's always nice to have someone new around that'll help pay the bills.
Manage World is the menu where players can edit everything about every single lot, household, and Sim in the game. There it's possible to edit any Sim even if the player isn't playing with them or knows them, they don't even have to be currently living on the world map at that moment.
To access manage world, players have to pause the game as they normally would in order to save or access settings for example. Then, they'll have to select the "Manage Worlds" option at the bottom. At the top, in manage worlds, there's an icon with two people and a pen next to them, this is the "Manage Households" option - where it's possible to move Sims around from place to place.
In the Manage Households menu, players will have to select the household of the Sim that they'd like to move. Next, there's a button with two arrows pointing in opposite directions, hovering over it will say "transfer Sims between households," that's where they'll have to click. This will open the Household Split and Merge menu.
Players will now have to choose the target household, then select the Sim they'd like to move and click the "transfer Sim(s)" arrow. It's also possible to transfer funds from one household to another. The next time that the player plays with the household, the Sim will be there living their life regularly
For players that own Discover University: An alternative to having another Sim in the household that the player can control, it's by adding an extra bed and putting an ad online looking for a roommate. Players can't restrain their actions, and it's impossible to control what their personality might be like, but they'll still contribute a percentage of the bills at the end of the week.
It's also possible to ask a Sim directly to move into the player's household. It's not guaranteed that they'll accept, it depends on how close the two Sims are. But, once two Sims have reached a high enough friendship level the "ask to join household" option will appear in the 'Friendly' interactions menu.

There are ways to increase friendship rather quickly, for example, by having friendly traits, or by taking selfies together and cloud gazing. Players with the High School Years expansion pack should try to socialize in Social Bunny and players with Tiny Living should consider making a tiny home since it really increases all relationship changes drastically while on the person's lot.
Certainly, there are players looking at this guide because their Sim has found love in-game, and they want the lovebirds to move in together. It's also possible to have two Sims move in together by marrying each other.
To do this, have the Sims grow closer together and fall in love by increasing their friendship and romance bars. Once these bars are high enough, the option to "propose" will appear on the screen. Sims won't always access a marriage proposal, sometimes they'll accept at the strangest times while sometimes they'll deny their supposed soulmate.
After the Sims have become engaged, they can either elope immediately or start a wedding event by throwing a wedding party. Either way, after they've eloped or kissed each other under a wedding arch, the game will cause a pop-up to appear on-screen asking the player if they'd like to have the two Sims move in together.
If the other Sim lives with more people, the player will manually have to transfer funds if they'd like to take some of their money. However, if the other Sim lives alone, these funds will automatically be added to the player's household.
Although perhaps a bit unorthodox, adding a player to a household is perhaps the simplest way to do it besides Manage Worlds. Before anything else, it's important to activate testingCheats - players that aren't familiar with how to do this should check out this very detailed guide on the subject.
Once testingCheats have been enabled, players will first have to find the Sim that they'd like to add to their household. Then, they have to activate the cheat by shift-clicking the Sim (clicking on them with the circle button on Playstation or B on Xbox.) The "add to family" option will now be available and it's possible to add just about any Sim in the game to one's household.
Eight is the maximum amount of Sims that can live in a certain household, regardless of the size of the lot. If the household is already full none of the options above will work. The only way to work around this is to download specific mods to increase household restrictions - however, doing this can cause the game to delete Sims on its own when entering Create-a-Sim or editing households over the official restriction limit.
MC Command Center (MCCC) is one of the most known mods in The Sims 4 community as it has a lot of useful features that can help players modify important aspects of the game. Among one of its many options, players can use it to add Sims to their household.
Scrip mods can be quite complicated and mess with the game in unexpected ways, so players should always approach them carefully.
To install MCCC in The Sims 4, players have to download it from the MC Command Center official website. Then, they must drag the contents in its zip file into The Sims 4 Mods file. In order for it to work, gamers must also enable scrip mods in The Sims 4 Settings tab.
Once MCCC is running properly, gamers have several actions they can take by pressing a specific and even more options if they select an in-game computer or by writing in the commands text bar.
To add a Sim to a household with MCCC, players have to open the commands text bar and then write "sim_move" followed by the Sim's first and last name. For example, to get Bob Pancakes to move in, they would have to write "sim_move bob pancakes". Then, a menu would appear on the screen asking the player if they'd like to move him into the active household or into another household instead.
With MCCC, players can also increase the maximum size of the households in the game. To do this, they must click a computer, choose the "MC Command Center" option, then select "Gameplay Settings", followed by "Maximum Household Size".
The Sims 4 is available now for Mac, PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
