The Best Thanksgiving Prayers to Express Your Gratitude This Holiday (2024)

The Best Thanksgiving Prayers to Express Your Gratitude This Holiday (1)

Though the November holiday is a great excuse to sit down with friends and family for a delicious Thanksgiving meal (and perhaps watch a game of football), Thanksgiving is more so a holiday of reflection. A day to acknowledge all of the many blessings in one’s life — great friends, supportive family members, bountiful food, and all of the other seemingly ordinary things that make life so special. A great way to say thanks for these gifts is with a Thanksgiving prayer, said before or after your meal, or any time throughout the day. Read one or more of these Thanksgiving blessings in private or aloud to the people you love.

Many of these messages giving thanks to God come from Bible verses and psalms, while others are from prolific poets and authors. Read through their inspirational words, and repeat them line by line. Or use them as guidance in your own unique prayer of thanksgiving. Either way, it’s important to express gratitude for what you have and what is yet to come beyond Thanksgiving Day.

“We have come to the last meal of this day, to our supper meal. Let us be mindful of how our Lord, at such a meal as this, washed his friends' feet in an act of holy service. As this food is about to serve us as nourishment, may we also serve one another. May the seal of God's love rest upon this food and upon this day, now drawing to a close. Thanksgiving Peace Prayer

The Best Thanksgiving Prayers to Express Your Gratitude This Holiday (7)

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.”
