Big news for Lancashire fans! England's talented bowler, Luke Wood, has just committed his future to the county, signing a fresh three-year deal to continue his white-ball cricket journey.
Wood's impact since joining Lancashire in the 2020 season has been nothing short of impressive. He's already snagged an incredible 84 wickets in just 72 T20 Blast games! This stellar performance has propelled the left-arm fast bowler onto the international stage, representing England in three 50-over internationals and 14 T20 matches. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recognized his talent, awarding him a central contract for the first time in 2026.
But here's where it gets interesting: Despite his international commitments, the 30-year-old will still be available for Lancashire's T20 Blast games next summer, whenever his schedule allows.
Initially, Wood played across all formats when he first joined Lancashire. However, he has shifted his focus to the white-ball game, and hasn't played any Championship cricket in the last two summers.
Wood's experience extends beyond domestic cricket, having participated in T20 leagues in Pakistan and Bangladesh. He's also set to join the Adelaide Strikers next month for the upcoming season of Australia's Big Bash.
The left-armer has been instrumental in helping Lancashire reach three T20 Finals Days at Emirates Old Trafford. Winning a trophy with Lancashire is a burning ambition for Wood.
"Playing for England is a huge honor, but Lancashire feels like home for me now, and to have clarity over the next few years is brilliant," Wood shared on the club's website. "Having reached three Finals Days during my time at the club, it feels like we are really close to success in the Vitality Blast, and it would be really special to achieve that with this group."
This commitment from Wood is a huge boost for Lancashire. What do you think about Wood's decision to focus on white-ball cricket? Do you think it's the right move for his career, or would you like to see him play more in the longer formats? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
