De Loop 375 is een state route en loop in de Amerikaanse staat Texas, gelegen rondom de stad El Paso. De weg verloopt driekwart rond El Paso en is 86 kilometer lang. Het is grotendeels een freeway.

Routebeschrijving
Loop 375 begint als freeway aan de grens met Mexico, naast de Rio Grande. Aan de overkant ligt de grote Mexicaanse stad Ciudad Juárez. De weg heet hier de Border Highway en telt 2x3 rijstroken. Men passeert onder de Interstate 110 door, maar er zijn geen uitwisselingsmogelijkheden toe. Dat kan wel direct erna met de US 54. De Border Highway blijft direct langs de Mexicaanse grens lopen. Na een kilometer of 20 buigt de Loop 375 landinwaarts van de Mexicaanse grens af. Via een stack kruist men de Interstate 10, die naar San Antonio verloopt.
Loop 375 gaat dan verder als freeway met 2x2 rijstroken ten oosten van El Paso langs, waarbij men de US 62 kruist. Ten noordoosten van El Paso verloopt de weg door de onbewoonde woestijn. Hier zijn ook geen kruisingen. De autosnelweg heeft dan een aansluiting op Spur 601 middels een diverging diamond interchange, en voert daarna langs het grote Fort Bliss, één van de grootste militaire bases van de Verenigde Staten.
In het noorden van El Paso kruist men nogmaals de US 54. Daarna duikt men de bergen in, die tot 2100 meter reiken. Vanaf Loop 375 heeft men hier fenomenaal uitzicht over de woestijn in Mexico en New Mexico. Bij Canutillo eindigt de weg weer op de Interstate 10 met flyovers.
Een tweede deel is de zogenoemde Border West Expressway, een autosnelweg parallel aan I-10 in het westen van El Paso. Deze splitst bij Sunland Park van I-10 af en verloopt er dan met 2x2 rijstroken parallel aan, op een nogal bochtig alignement, deels ook op viaducten met uitzicht op de stad en het aangrenzende gebied van Mexico. De autosnelweg voert dan langs de Rio Grande rond de zuidzijde van het centrum van El Paso en gaat dan weer over in de Border Highway.
Geschiedenis
Het deel van Downtown El Paso tot Padres Drive is al in de jaren 80 of eerder als freeway aangelegd. Begin jaren 90 is het zuidoostelijk deel verder tot I-10 aangelegd, alhoewel het klaverblad met I-10 al ouder is. De hoofdrijbaan ter hoogte van I-10 is in 2005 opengesteld. Eind 2005 of begin 2006 is de autosnelweg verder langs de oostkant van El Paso geopend, evenals langs de noordoostkant van El Paso.
Op 2 juni 2014 opende een nieuw knooppunt met I-10, inclusief bijna 4 kilometer freeway vanaf I-10 naar het oosten in het noordwesten van El Paso. Tevens opende 3 kilometer freeway in het noorden van El Paso, tussen Dyer Street en de US 54. Hiermee was op één ongeregeld kruispunt na, de hele Loop 375 free-flow langs de noordkant van El Paso.[1]
Het oostelijke knooppunt met I-10 was oorspronkelijk een klaverblad, één van de zeer weinige tussen freeways in Texas. Het eigenlijke klaverblad was aangesloten op de frontage roads. Tussen 2011 en 2015 zijn 7 van de 8 direct connectors (flyovers) aangelegd voor de verbindingen tussen I-10 en Loop 375. Het klaverblad was daarna alleen nog in gebruik voor uitwisseling tussen de frontage roads.
Express lanes
In 2012-2013 zijn express lanes langs de Loop 375 aangelegd tussen de I-110 bij het centrum en Zaragoza Road, dit deel loopt langs de grens met Mexico en is daarmee van 2x2 naar 2x3 rijstroken verbreed. Dit deel van de Loop 375 is een alternatief voor de I-10. De nieuwe express lanes openden op 3 januari 2014 voor het verkeer.[2][3] Het waren de eerste express lanes langs een snelweg met 2x2 rijstroken in de Verenigde Staten, en ook de eerste langs een snelweg met lage intensiteiten van 35.000 voertuigen. De express lanes werden nauwelijks gebruikt, in mei 2014 ging het gemiddeld om 500 voertuigen per richting per dag.[4] In het eerste kwartaal van 2016 kostte de inning van tolheffing meer dan de inkomsten uit de tolheffing.[5] Daarna is beargumenteerd dat de tolheffing beter gestaakt kon worden,[6] en de tolinning is daadwerkelijk gestaakt op 1 september 2017.[7][8]
Border West Expressway
Tussen 2014 en 2019 is de Loop 375 ongeveer 15 kilometer westwaarts verlengd door het zuidwesten van El Paso, parallel aan de Interstate 10. Dit heet ook wel de 'Border West Expressway'.[9] Een groot deel is over Paisano Drive aangelegd. Dit deel verloopt grotendeels op viaducten en kostte $ 545 miljoen inclusief 15 jaar onderhoud.[10] De aanleg begon op 12 november 2014.[11] De snelweg werd op 13 september 2019 opgeleverd[12] en vervolgens op 3 oktober 2019 opengesteld voor het verkeer.[13] De Border West Expressway was gepland als tolweg, maar de tolheffing is voortdurend uitgesteld[14][15] en op 26 oktober 2023 werd officieel besloten er geen tolweg van te maken.[16]
Toekomst
North Loop 375
Verder is het op termijn gepland om een tolweg aan te leggen vanaf de noordzijde van El Paso tot de grens met New Mexico, waar een verdere route aansluiting moet geven op de I-10 bij Anthony, New Mexico. Dit wordt vermoedelijk niet als Loop 375 aangelegd.
Op 5 februari 2019 werd een FONSI afgegeven voor de verbreding naar 2x3 rijstroken de bouw van frontage roads op het deel tussen de US 62/180 (Montana Avenue) en Spur 601, aan de noordoostkant van El Paso.[17]
Verkeersintensiteiten
Dagelijks rijden 29.000 tot 36.000 voertuigen over de Border West Highway, parallel aan I-10 ten westen van Downtown El Paso. Langs het centrum rijden 18.000 voertuigen, daarna 44.000 tot 62.000 voertuigen over het traject verder oostwaarts langs de Mexicaanse grens tot I-10 in het oosten van El Paso. Het oostelijk deel van Loop 375, tussen I-10 en US 62, is het drukste deel van de autosnelweg, met 78.000 tot 104.000 voertuigen per dag. Daarna rijden 60.000 voertuigen ten noordoosten van El Paso en 30.000 voertuigen tot de US 54 ten noorden van El Paso. Door de bergen ten noorden van El Paso rijden 32.000 tot 35.000 voertuigen per dag.[18]
