This episode, titled 'The Black Spot', transported us back to 1908, where we witnessed the birth of Pennywise. Bob Gray, the real-life Pennywise the Dancing Clown, captivated a group of children with his iconic dance routine, surrounded by red balloons. But lurking in the shadows was a young boy, who would become the embodiment of 'It'.
The boy, later revealed to be Bob's daughter Ingrid, had a special connection with the clown. Their bond was evident, but their time together was fleeting. As Bob enjoyed a quiet drink, the boy approached, intrigued by the children's attraction to him. A scream shattered the air, and the boy, disguised as 'It', lured Bob into the woods, where he met his untimely end.
'It' had been experimenting with different forms to attract children, but after encountering Pennywise, it realized the power of the clown persona. This echoed the events of 'It: Chapter 1', where 'It' took the form of Georgie to lure children to its doom.
Fast forward to the present, and the town of Derry was in chaos. The locals stormed The Black Spot, trapping its patrons inside and launching a deadly attack on Hank Grogan. Tragically, Rich met his end, declaring his love for Marge. Hank escaped, but his fate remained uncertain.
The climax of the episode was a chilling encounter between Ingrid and Pennywise. Dressed as the clown, Ingrid found herself face-to-face with the real Pennywise. In a twisted display of power, Pennywise sliced her husband's head in half and devoured it, all while pretending to be her father. Ingrid's realization of the truth sent shivers down our spines, leading to a chilling confession from Pennywise: 'He still lives inside of me. I can feel him right now. He’s reaching out for his baby girl.'
As the episode concluded, Derry returned to its normal state, but Leroy Hanlon uncovered a disturbing secret. The military's plan was to unleash Pennywise upon America every 27 years, ensuring peace between these intervals and potentially preventing a devastating Civil War. With one of the shards destroyed, Pennywise emerged, bloodied and ready for more carnage, as the series hurtles towards its season finale.
