Fans of Hallmark’s Mystery 101 have been waiting nine months for the resolution to the Deadly History cliffhanger.
Moreover, the lack of information on the series has been the topic of message boards and Reddit posts. Sleuthers have been asking Mystery 101 stars Jill Wagner and Kristoffer Polaha about the eighth movie.
What is the latest on the Hallmark Signature Movie series?
Is Hallmark’s Mystery 101 Canceled?
Mystery 101 star Kristoffer Polaha has been on the press circle of late. That is because he is starring with Angie Harmon in the satisfying new Lifetime movie series, Buried In Barstow.
Inevitably, someone wants to know about Mystery 101. The last movie, Deadly History, had a shocking cliffhanger. That movie premiered in mid-September 2021. Is Hallmark making a new movie?
What does Polaha have to say about the status of Mystery 101?
The Dater’s Handbook star revealed to Metacritic that “Mystery 101 is, for all intents and purposes, on a very long hiatus. We will find out about the future of Mystery 101. That’s not to say it’s canceled, but I have no dates as to when we’re going to do No. 8.”
Mystery Movie Stars Revealed Hallmark Series Canceled
Since September, the stars of several Hallmark mysteries have revealed their series have been canceled. That includes Kellie Martin sharing thatHailey Dean Mysteries was canceled, Alexa PenaVega thatPicture Perfect Mysteries was done, and Danica McKellar thatMatchmaker Mysteries is over.
However, the network did not share that program information.
One important detail about Polaha’s comment on Mystery 101 is that the network did not reveal that it is canceled. He shared that it is “on a very hiatus,” as well as revealed that it has not been canceled. Hallmark is just not doing anything with it now.
Hallmark’s Mystery 101, Movie 8 Was Scheduled To Film In 2021
Kristoffer Polaha also shared that Hallmark was going to film the Mystery 101 eighth movie late in 2021.
He shared the information that Jill Wagner shared with him.
I got this random call from my co-star in October and she was like, ‘Yeah, we’re not going to shoot Mystery 101 in November, it might get pushed to January.’ And I got on the phone with everybody at Hallmark and said, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ My Spidey senses were tingling, and I was like, ‘I don’t know that we’re gonna film this one any time soon.’
Therefore, Kris revealed that the original plan was that they would film the eighth movie in November 2021. Next, they tentatively pushed it to January 2022.
However, after speaking to the folks at Hallmark, Kristoffer Polaha got the chance to work on the Lifetime movie with Angie Harmon. He signed a four-picture deal with them. Moreover, based on viewership and the buzz around Buried In Barstow, he is on a hit show.
However, there is still no word on when they will film this mystery. We know that John Christian Plummer has a script ready to go. However, there is a huge delay.
Moreover, that delay is much better than the alternative. The stars that worked in the canceled shows were told that they were canceled.
Kristoffer Polaha confirmed that the series is not canceled. It is just on hiatus. It took a few years for Hallmark to make the most recent Signed, Sealed, Delivered movie. Could this happen with Mystery 101?

Another Hallmark mystery series has come to an end. Mystery 101 with Jill Wagner and Kristoffer Polaha has been canceled, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries recently confirmed.
I'm excited to see the future brings.” While Wagner did a few projects for Hallmark's main competitor, Great American Media, in 2021 and 2022, Polaha has stayed committed to the original TV home of all-things Christmas.
Cameron Mathison has left Hallmark for Great American Family, or GAC, and Victor Webster will replace him in the Hannah Swensen Mysteries, a favorite of ours. Good move, I've liked Webster since Continuum and I like his work with Hallmark. Question: Is Cameron more active at GAF (GACK!!) than he was with Hallmark?
While there's been no announcement the franchise has been cancelled, it is on hold. The last movie from the franchise, which stars Jesse Metcalfe, debuted in 2021, and since then, there hasn't been much news.
Since December 2021, Wagner has not appeared on the Hallmark Channel and has moved over to Great American Family. She appeared in “A Christmas Miracle for Daisy” for the Bill Abbott-run network in 2021 and “A Merry Christmas Wish” in 2022.
The Ruby Herring Mysteries starred Taylor Cole and Stephen Huszar as a TV reporter and cop who dive deep into the mysteries she reported on. While Hallmark has not given a hint of the future of the franchise, it's safe to say that it's been over for a while. The final movie came out in 2020.
Fixer Upper Mysteries, with Jewel and Colin Ferguson, only had three movies made, with the last one debuting in 2018. While the status of this franchise is on hold, it doesn't seem it will be coming back.
Candace Cameron Bure is no longer solving mysteries as Aurora Teagarden. Now, she's Ainsley McGregor. On Tuesday, Great American Family announced they will soon launch Great American Mysteries — following closely in the footsteps of Hallmark, which also has Hallmark Movies & Mysteries under its umbrella.
In an interview, Macfarlane confirmed that he was leaving Hallmark for good, throwing a little shade while he was at it. "They've been very good to me, but I think I've told my story for now with those folks," Macfarlane told the LA Times in a 2022 interview promoting Bros. "I mean, how many firefighters can I play?"
Danica was not the only star to leave Hallmark behind. Jen Lilley, Jessica Lowndes, Trevor Donovan and Candace Cameron Bure also made the move to GAC Family.
Alison Sweeney, who plays Hannah Swensen, seemly confirmed to TVLine in April 2024 that Mathison isn't in One Bad Apple because he signed a multi-picture deal with Great American Media, a rival to Hallmark Channel. She also confirmed how Mike was written out of the franchise: He left for FBI training in Quantico.
The films were created by Robin Bernheim and Lee Goldberg, starring Polaha, Jill Wagner and Robin Thomas. The first debuted in January 2019 and six more followed. The last, “Mystery 101: Deadly History” aired in September 2021.
