i-Ready Diagnostic 7thGrade Sample Questions

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive online test that is intended to show your child’s understanding of Math and Reading and help figure out what your child is ready to learn next. As an adaptive test, questions will get easier or harder depending on how your child is progressing on the test. Questions may range up to three grade levels above your child’s current grade.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is given in the following order for children in 7thGrade.

Math

  • Algebra and Algebraic Thinking – This section assesses students’ grasp of algebraic concepts, with a focus on patterns, relationships, functions, and linear equations. Students work with more sophisticated equations and apply various problem-solving strategies, building upon their prior knowledge.
  • Numbers and Operations – In this section, students’ skills in recognizing and working with numbers are evaluated, encompassing counting, comparing, and performing arithmetic operations. They delve into more advanced concepts related to rational numbers, ratios, and proportional relationships.
  • Geometry – The Geometry section examines students’ understanding of geometric shapes, their properties, and spatial relationships. They continue to identify, classify, and manipulate shapes while exploring advanced geometric ideas, such as transformations, congruence, and similarity.
  • Measurement and Data – This section covers concepts related to measurement and data, progressing from earlier foundational knowledge. Students learn to utilize various tools and units for measurement and practice interpreting and representing data in multiple formats, including intricate graphs and charts.

Reading

  • Vocabulary – The Vocabulary section evaluates students’ comprehension of a wide array of words, their meanings, and their contextual usage. Fostering a robust vocabulary is crucial for reading comprehension and effective communication, and this section assists students in expanding their word knowledge.
  • Comprehension: Literature – In this section, students are assessed on their capacity to understand and interpret literary texts, such as novels, poems, and plays. They delve deeper into analyzing characters, settings, events, themes, and central messages, sharpening their critical thinking and interpretation abilities.
  • Comprehension: Informational Text – This section focuses on gauging students’ ability to comprehend informational texts, including articles, reports, and nonfiction books. Students practice identifying main ideas, supporting details, text structures, and author’s purpose across various informational text types, enhancing their comprehension and analytical skills.
  • Phonics (if your child’s overall scale score is less than 511) – For students with an overall scale score below 511, this section supports reinforcing their capability to recognize and decode letters and their corresponding sounds. They continue to refine their decoding skills, focusing on more complex letter combinations and patterns, essential for reading fluency.
  • High-Frequency Words (if your child’s score on the Phonics domain is less than 421)
