BENJAMIN MOORE GRAY OWL
Picking light gray colors is really tricky! Believe me, I’velooked at every single light gray paint color known to man. Well, not all of them but a lot of them! So much so that it’s the most common question I get on my blog! After painting almost every single room in our house over the past four years (and making lots of mistakes along the way,) I’ve developed a system. GRAY OWL VS. BALBOA MIST
Here you can see how Benjamin Moore Gray Owl compares with one of my favoriteBenjamin Moore light gray paint colors, BM Balboa Mist. You can see my complete review of Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist here. Side by side, Owl Gray has more green undertones than Balboa Mist. It’s similar darknesses, so both work well in a variety of rooms.
BENJAMIN MOORE GRAY OWL VS WICKHAM GRAY:
Wickham Gray is very similar to Balboa Mist. You can see Gray Owl’s greenish undertones, whereas Wickam Gray almost have bluish undertones. Both are beautiful light gray colors that look terrific in great rooms, family rooms, entryways, and bedrooms!
GRAY OWL VS. STONINGTON GRAY:
Two of Benjamin Moore’s most popular light gray colors go back to back. Stonington Gray is a bluer gray and reads more as a “true gray” than Gray Owl. However, I think that makes Gray Owl more sophisticated and versatile.
GRAY OWL VS REVERE PEWTER:
While Gray Owl makes Wickham Gray blue, you can see how brown it makes Revere Pewter look. If you want a deeper and warmer gray color, then go with Revere Pewter (see my complete review of Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter here.)
BENJAMIN MOORE GRAY OWL VS. PALE OAK:
Benjamin Moore’s Pale Oak and Gray Owl are very similar as far as saturation goes; however, Gray Owl has more green undertones than Pale Oak which has more beige (greige you might call it.) I’ve also heard Benjamin Moore Pale Oak considered a white, so whichever you prefer.
GRAY OWL VS. METROPOLITAN GRAY:
Here you can see how different Gray Owl and Metropolitan Gray are compared side by side. If you want a moodier room go for Metropolitan Gray; and if you want an airier room, go with BM Gray Owl.
BENJAMIN MOORE GRAY OWL VS. EDGECOMB GRAY:
Here you can see Benjamin Moore Gray Owl and BM Edgecomb Gray head to head. Edgecomb Gray has a lot more beige in it than Gray Owl, and is a much warmer gray. For rooms that have more Southern exposure (and more light) I like to use bluer tones, and in rooms with Northern light exposure, I use warmer tones. However, both look nice side-by-side.
BM GRAY OWL VS. CLASSIC GRAY:
