Anchor Point Studios, a Barcelona-based game development studio, has recently taken a bold step by breaking away from its parent company, NetEase, to become an independent entity. This move marks a significant turning point for the studio, as it now has the freedom to shape its own destiny and pursue its creative vision without the constraints of a larger corporation.
In a heartfelt message on LinkedIn, CEO Paul Ehreth expressed his gratitude to NetEase for the support, resources, and trust they've provided. He emphasized that this transition is an exciting opportunity for the studio to focus more sharply on its vision and forge new partnerships that align with its creative ambitions. Ehreth's enthusiasm is infectious, as he believes the studio's passion and motivation remain stronger than ever.
Anchor Point Studios is now actively seeking conversations with prospective investors and partners who share their vision for the future of the project and the dedicated team behind it. This move is a testament to the studio's confidence in its abilities and its belief in the potential of its upcoming game.
NetEase, a prominent player in the gaming industry, has a history of both spinning off and shutting down studios. Recent examples include Bad Brain Game Studios, NetEase Montreal, T-Minus Zero, and Fantastic Pixel Castle. Additionally, NetEase recently sold its mobile studio, Mattel163, to Mattel. Despite these changes, NetEase's overall revenue for 2025 increased by 6.9% to RMB 112.6 billion ($16.1 billion), with a significant portion of this growth attributed to its gaming segment.
The gaming segment's revenue reached RMB 92.1 billion ($13.2 billion), a 10.1% increase from the previous year. Online games dominated this segment, with higher net sales from popular titles such as Fantasy Westward Journey Online, Identity V, Where Winds Meet, and Marvel Rivals.
